Neutral colors are muted shades that appear to lack color but often have underlying hues that change with different lighting. Examples of neutral colors include beige, taupe, gray, cream, brown, black, and white. Neutral colors can be complex in tone, as mixing different colors creates unique shades.
For this edition of the color of the month, our homage to neutral is Sherwin Williams Spalding Gray.
We designed a guest bathroom as part of a renovation for a bachelor’s condo. We decided to create an earthy guest bathroom to ignite the senses through textures and subtle colors: white accents, solid patterns, and natural textures from the stone.
The stained wood cabinetry set the stage for greys and browns, while the stone backsplash added texture and contrast. The white countertop was the perfect transition to anchor the scheme. Metal mirrors and lights further added a layer of texture. We used dark tiles on the floor and on the tub wall to anchor the design. The stone detail brightened the tub wall and recalled the backsplash to bring the design full circle. We needed the perfect paint color to bring it all together and found it with Sherwin Williams, Spalding Gray. It was the perfect mix of gray and beige, greige, that created the ideal backdrop for the neutral shades used in the bathroom.
