We are lucky to have longtime clients who trusted us for years with their interior design needs. Some have lived in their current home for 20-30 years. Overtime, we have redone their kitchens, bathrooms, family rooms and patios. While some designs require construction, others call for a design refresh.

One of our clients built their home more than 30 years ago. They stopped using the living room altogether, except for at Christmas. The room felt abandoned and needed new life.
Recently they decided it was time to update their living and dining rooms.

Their goal was to make the room more inviting – but to keep most of the furniture.

Check out these before and after pictures to see the simple ways we refreshed an outdated room while honoring the existing architecture and furniture.

Montague Design custom designed a wool area rug with a gold silk motif to anchor the room. The white sofa fabric was original. We opted for a small animal print fabric that pulled out the browns and gave texture to the sofa, without overwhelming it. We also kept the existing red throw pillows and contrasted them with a large pattern animal print for the new ones. The bolster in the middle of the sofa brought a nice contrast of shape and color, as well as nodded to other new fabrics used in the room.

Montague Design updated the window treatment, too, as the design style and floral fabric did not fit the room any longer. We designed a window treatment with clean lines, in an ecru silk fabric lined with a silver silk banding to contrast with the gold in the room. The red chair also was a new addition, while other chairs got new fabric and the walls were painted a light cream. There still are a few details that need to be finalized before we show the full room. (We will be sure to share an update when it is finished!)

As you can see simple updates can make a big impact. We love collaborating with you to create your nest. Our French-sational approach is to carefully select each item to be unique to you. The end result: a room that does not feel overly decorated, but is inviting and comfortable.
